Satake Bead Class with Jeff Barber
$340 (includes materials and lunch)
Class info:
Day one: we will focus on how to work with Satake, flame chemistry,
annealing and such. We will start by making stringers and
patterned canes, and just getting a general feel of the glass. We
will then move on to using silver, copper and gold leaf and
examining some of the reactive qualities of Satake. And finish out
the day by making beads and getting a grasp on how to control
and shape Satake glass.
Day two: I start by demonstrating some of the beads that I make,
while discussing color theory, composition and using gravity to
create designs and shape. The rest of the day will be spent making
more complex beads by incorporating the canes and techniques we
learned and discussed in day one.

Class Information
At R4 Glass Studio, we offer a wide range of classes. Whether you just
starting out in bead making to classes that will challenge the advanced artists.
Please feel free to contact us with questions and request for special classes. If
you don't like the class environment, one on one classes can be arranged.
There is also on opportunity for group class parties of six friends or more.
The following are a list of classes we offer. Please contact us for class
schedules.
Intro to Bead Making $150
A six hour class teaching all the basic bead making techniques to build a solid
foundation for the beginning artist. This class starts with a introduction on
safety, torches, tools and glass.
You will learn how to; Make a round bead, cylinder bead and bi-cone bead.
How to make and use stringers, Dots, Raking and more!
Intermediate Bead Making $150
A six hour class showing more advanced bead making techniques. This class
also, introduces the special effects of Northstar Color Borosilicate Glass.
Advanced Bead Making $200
An Eight hour class showing complex Cane Work, Murini Making and Garden
Beads.
Intro to Boro Pendants $150
A six hour class showing many color applications and special effects of boro
color on pendants. Learn round and tear drop pendants...... and most
important, how to make the perfect loop.
Advanced Boro Pendants $200
An eight hour class focusing on the advanced techniques of boro pendants.
These include, imploded flowers, vortex, Gilson Opals, Dichroic Glass and
more!
Intro to Borosilicate Marbles $150
A six hour class showing marble design and shaping. We will start with simple
color one inch marbles, ending with larger more complex designs and
techniques.
Glass Bracelets (Two Day Class) $275
This class will cover some of the techniques shown in our book "The Exotic
Art of Glass Bracelets". Each student will learn how to design, fuse and bend
glass bracelets.
All of our classes include all supplies, glass and lunch. Students don't need to bring anything
to our classes except a smile and the readiness to have fun!
